Tomorrow morning in Britain is coronation day and some of you may be getting up at 5 (or earlier, depending on your time zone) to watch live or see its highlights. I, personally, am most eager to witness how King Charles II will put his passion for gardening into effect during his rule – having already written positively of his plant-filled coronation emblem!).

Prince Charles made an unforgettable visit to a community garden in D.C. back in 2011. As you can see above, he inquires knowledgeablely about their compost bins.

And one of my go-to gardening books is King’s “Elements of Organic Gardening,” from which I borrowed some photos to illustrate this post (hopefully without legal issues!).

So much has been made of Charles’ love of gardening that it generated nearly 10 million results when Googling “King Charles gardener.” Strangely enough, Google suggested I search instead for Charles Gairdner – former governor of Western Australia! Now we know!).

Since Charles became King last September there has been extensive coverage about his relationship to gardening; such as “Why King Charles I is Our Most Green-Fingered Monarch,” written for House and Garden UK.
